Have you seen Encounter of the third kind? The Stephen Speilberg film? You should. Next year marks 40 years since it's release. 40 years. At the time, neither the internet nor drones were given great thought, however, there are some references towards them in the film.
Why am I talking to you about this? Because, according to The Guiness Book of Records, Intel Corporation has held the record for the largest number of simultaneous flights by drones (100) since last November. And the choreography was amazing; like the musical scene in Encounter of the Third Kind (which you should watch again).
In the meantime, I'll leave you to admire the ballet of 100 Intel drones and we'll talk about it afterwards.
Great, isn't it?
The drones' fireworks are controlled from the ground by the Intel team using their software, to the live sounds of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.
I don't know if one day our online orders will be delivered by drones but if worse comes to worst, if the delivery of the third kind doesn't happen, here we have already, an artistic and poetic purpose few of us would have thought of; far beyond from the mercantile or military use to which some would like to confine the drones.
And for hardcore fans, if you're not yet familiar with it, let me sway you towards the excellent site Instadrone, of the equally excellent Eric Dupin where the magic of the photos and the videos compete with the technical innovation of those who make them.
Don't let Notre Dame de la Garde filmed by a 4k drone say otherwise :-)
Have a good weekend everybody!
